NETHERLAND DEFEATS BRAZIL AGAIN WITH A 3-0 GOAL

Arjen Robben (AP)

Football World cup hosts Brazil suffered a second defeat in a row, after they were beaten 3-0  by the Netherlands in the third/fourth place playoff in Brasilia on Saturday. Disastrous defending was again at the heart of the problem, after Brazil conceded a penalty in just the second minute.
Dutch forward Arjen Robben burst past returning Brazilian skipper Thiago Silva just outside the area in the inside right channel, forcing the centre back to haul the speedster down, and he duly tumbled in the area, leaving the referee no choice but to award the penalty.
Silva somehow managed to avoid being sent off, considering that he was the last defender, and was booked for the foul. Dutch skipper Robben van Persie emphatically powered his left-footed spot kick high to Julio Cesar's left, to give the Netherlands the lead.

More woeful defending followed for the second Dutch goal in the 17th minute when instead of heading a cross from the right out for a corner, much-maligned defender David Luiz headed it back towards the penalty spot, with disastrous conséquences. The ball found the outstretched boot of defender Daley Blind, who composed himself well to rifle a right-footed volley into the top corner.
Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum swept home the third late into second half stoppage time after replacement defender Daryl Janmaat delivered a a dangerous low cross from the right-- news24
